Preventative Dentistry

New Patient Exam

Visiting the dentist needn’t be a daunting experience. Our team’s primary focus is to ensure you feel comfortable during your consultation, while we understand your unique dental needs.

During your consultation, we’ll discuss any dental concerns you may have, including areas of pain or discomfort and any aspects of your smile that you’d like to improve. Our dentists will assess your medical and dental history before checking your jaw function, oral soft tissue, gum and teeth health in addition to oral cancer screening.

Our dental team utilise the latest digital x-ray technology to check for decay inside or between your teeth to assist in personalised treatment planning for optimal outcomes for every patient.

Recall hygiene and preventative treatments

We help you prevent many avoidable causes of dental disease by educating patients on optimal oral health practices. Our team place a strong emphasis on booking preventative recalls every six months as regular maintenance is necessary to avoid serious dental issues or allowing disease to progress unnoticed.

Plaque marks the starting point for many dental diseases. Brushing your teeth twice a day — morning and night allows appropriate mechanical intervention to removed plaque before it calcifies resulting in gum irritation and stained teeth.

Our recall hygiene appointments include the application of fluoride and the polishing of teeth, as well as individualised oral hygiene instructions. Our team will effectively remove this tenacious plaque to prevent gum disease and bone loss.

Children's Dentistry

Here at Blakehurst Dental, we’re passionate about looking after your children’s teeth for life. We take pride in maintaining life-long relationships with our patients and focus on helping children learn about the importance of excellent oral hygiene.

Effective oral hygiene habits begin as soon as your child’s first tooth erupts into the mouth, which can be as early as 6 months of age. Aside from the obvious benefits to a child’s oral health, children should start visiting the dentist from an early age so they can become comfortable in the dental environment. Initially, children’s dental examinations are relaxed and flexible, with many children choosing to be examined from the comfort of their parent’s lap.

As your child grows, our examinations become more thorough. Our team will assess the development of the jaw as well as checking the health of the soft tissue and teeth. As early as 8 years old, your child can benefit from x-rays to determine the development of the jaw and teeth. This ensures that any interceptive treatment can be planned in conjunction with growth, giving the adult teeth the best chance of moving into alignment.

All health fund members will receive Gap free dental examinations, x-rays, cleaning and fluoride treatments when booking with Dr Emma. If you are not part of a health-fund all children will be seen at 50% of the total cost when booking with Dr Emma.
