Dentists

Dr. Martin Pratt, Dr. Debbie Philpott and Dr. Emma Walsh

Dr. Martin Pratt graduated with honours from The University of Sydney in 1981.
He has practiced dentistry at Blakehurst since 1983 during which time he has developed close personal ties to the community.
His passion is to achieve the ideal treatment outcomes for his patients using “best practice” techniques. His particular interest is in complex cosmetic reconstruction and implant therapies and he has developed a close working relationship with some of Sydney’s most respected specialists.

Dr. Debbie Philpott graduated from The University of Sydney in 1981 and has worked in general practice in Blakehurst since 1987.
She is engaged in all aspects of the dental care of the Blakehurst community and has a particular interest in the movement of teeth using Invisalign, creating beautiful smiles and well functioning dentitions.
Debbie and Martin are deeply connected to their patients “our patients are our friends” and to Debbie caring for the person is one of the most important aspects of dental practice. This is matched only by her belief in maintaining “best practice” through up to date techniques and equipment.
“One of my proudest moments was when a patient said to me “not only have you look after my teeth beautifully over the years, but we’ve raised our children together”. This is what dental practice means to me”.

Dr Emma Walsh is our new Dentist joining Blakehurst Dental in 2019. Emma studied Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Sydney before completing Dentistry at Charles Sturt University where she graduated with distinction at the top of her class. Following graduation Emma secured a highly sought after position at Sydney Dental Hospital where she concurrently works. Emma has gained comprehensive experience in all areas of dentistry through her work in the public and private sectors and has engaged in philanthropic work by putting her skills to work in rural communities in Cambodia.

Emma was highly commended in Dental school, receiving the Henry Shein Halas award for clinical excellence, the Deans award for academic excellence and the ADA NSW Branch award for academic and clinical achievement. Since graduating Emma has remained dedicated to continuing professional development. In 2018 she completed The Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons primary exams, achieving the highest commendation for all subjects.

Whilst Emma enjoys all aspects of dentistry she particularly enjoys meeting new patients and helping to make their visit to the dentist relaxed and personalised. She places a high level of importance on the concerns of each person and applies a holistic and preventative approach. Emma hopes to always empower patients to have a better understanding of their dental health.

When Emma is not in practice she enjoys an active lifestyle, spending much of her time outdoors exploring nature. She is an enthusiast of the arts and design and enjoys spending time with her friends and family in Sydney. Her genuine, caring and happy nature makes her an excellent clinician and she looks forward to being a part of the local community.
